Firebird Ballet
The Firebird Ballet is a ballet in two acts. The story is based on a Russian fairy tale about a magical bird that can bring both good fortune and destruction to its captor. The ballet was first performed in 1910 and was choreographed by Michel Fokine, with music by Igor Stravinsky.
The story begins with Prince Ivan, who is lost in the forest. He comes across a magical garden where he sees the beautiful Firebird. He tries to capture her, but she escapes. The prince then discovers that the garden belongs to an evil sorcerer named Kastchei, who has captured many princesses and turned them into statues.
The Firebird returns to help Prince Ivan and gives him a magic feather that will help him defeat Kastchei. The prince uses the feather to break the spell that Kastchei has cast on the princesses, and they all come back to life.
Kastchei discovers what has happened and sends his minions to capture Prince Ivan. However, the Firebird appears again and uses her magic to put Kastchei and his minions to sleep. Prince Ivan then destroys Kastchei's magic egg, which contains his soul, and Kastchei dies.
The ballet ends with a celebration of Prince Ivan's victory over Kastchei and the rescue of the princesses. The Firebird appears one last time before flying away into the forest.
